'I'm Just Proud To Be A Part Of It.' Run to Remember Announcer Mark Bravo On What The Marathon Represents

Memorial Marathon Weekend is finally here, and thousands of racers are preparing to participate.

Professional Running Coach and this year's Run to Remember announcer Mark Bravo joined News 9 on Friday morning to talk about the big weekend.

Bravo, who has had a part in the race since its inception, said the race has been a way for the state to turn something tragic into something uplifting.

"There is so much positivity; what came in 1995 from a terrible tragedy. The Oklahoma Standard, the Oklahoma Standard is carried through now for 29 years," Bravo said.

Bravo said the Memorial Marathon Weekend stands out from any other road race in the world due to its unique premise, it's not just a race, it's a journey of healing and remembrance.

"We honor those lost, those changed forever, and those survivors, and it is just a major day. The entire city and state embraces it, crowds swell more every year. I'm just proud to be a part of it," Bravo said.

Bravo will be part of the News 9 team coverage on race day with our Karl Torp and Amanda Taylor at the finish line.

He said while the race may have a challenging course, he knows the runners are up for it.

"Runners take what they throw at you and that is part of the Oklahoma standard in and of itself," Bravo said.
